About the Craft :
The process of BAGRU hand block printing is a very traditional ancient method of using the exquisitely carved blocks that are soaked overnight in mustard oil and then washed. Then these blocks are used to print on the fabric, using hand stamping method that is a lobor of love.
The process starts with scoured fabrics are dipped into 'Chebula Tree' seed or Black Myrobalan Haritaki mixture to give a distinct yellow tint to the fabric. Thus distinct from 'Saganeri' print, the latter always being on the off white background. Harda has natural Tannic Acid in it that acts as a mordant for the iron of the printing color and resulting in formation of Bagru Black.
